Deep Vellum

During my signing at Deep Vellum in Dallas I had the rare and enjoyable experience of meeting a Funky reader whose pull quote (that sounds so much better than blurb) was chosen by my editors at The KSU Press from emails I’d received for use on the back of the Last Leaf book jacket.

My thanks to Dale not only for his kind comments, but for letting us use them. Not to mention stopping by Deep Vellum to say hello. He was even nicer than his quote.

Caught the sun working some magic on the Galleria.

Rothko Chapel

I’m not sure if the Rothko Chapel is necessarily in everyone’s wheelhouse, but it’s most certainly within mine. I’ve be a Rothko fan since way back when and looked forward to finally getting to see his ultimate artistic expression while on my stop in Houston. It wasn’t a letdown, and, in fact, exceeded my expectations. I’ll trade you a thousand ornate Gothic stained glass windows for the powerful and immense presence of the artwork found within this austere and serene setting.

Outside of Brazos one of my top five favorite bookstores in the land.

Once again old home week on the road continued as some Kent State alum from the Mobrious Pit in my old dorm showed for the signing. Thanks to Dennis and Rick for making the trek.

The signing was followed by some Texas BarBQ and swapping stories with a couple of Texas Funky followers.
